A few years ago, I was visiting a cashew processing factory.
From the outside, everything appeared stable.
Hundreds of workers.
Machines running.
Containers moving in and out.
Orders being shipped.
The factory looked strong because it looked large.
But during a conversation with the owner, I noticed something interesting.
Whenever a difficult problem appeared, everyone seemed to turn toward the same few people.
One person handled supplier relationships.
One person managed financing and cash flow.
One person solved operational emergencies.
One person negotiated with key customers.
The organization had hundreds of employees.
But the most critical decisions often flowed through a very small group.
I later saw the same pattern in logistics companies.
In banks.
In manufacturing businesses.
And even in families.
Most people assume that organizational strength comes from numbers.
More employees.
More departments.
More resources.
More infrastructure.
But reality is often different.
This is where an observation known as Price’s Law becomes interesting.
Price’s Law suggests that in many systems, a surprisingly small percentage of people produce a disproportionately large percentage of the results.
The exact numbers are less important than the pattern.
A small group often carries most of the responsibility.
Most people see the visible structure.
Few people see where the actual weight is being carried.
This misunderstanding creates a common illusion.
When an organization is running smoothly, outsiders assume everything is distributed evenly.
They see hundreds of people working together and assume the burden is shared equally.
But often it is not.
A handful of individuals are making the difficult decisions.
Managing uncertainty.
Protecting customer relationships.
Handling crises.
Managing risk.
Maintaining trust.
And carrying responsibilities that are largely invisible.
That is why one exhausted manager can create unexpected instability.
One departing executive can disrupt an entire operation.
One poor decision can affect thousands of people.
Not because the organization is weak.
But because responsibility is rarely distributed as evenly as people imagine.
From a Human Operating System perspective, this reveals something deeper.
The real challenge is not simply workload.
It is decision load.
Every significant decision consumes attention.
Every unresolved problem consumes cognitive resources.
Every uncertainty requires mental processing.
Over time, the nervous system pays a price.
Many leaders appear calm on the surface.
They continue attending meetings.
Answering emails.
Negotiating contracts.
Managing teams.
Yet internally, they may be processing hundreds of unresolved variables every day.
The body can remain functional long after the nervous system begins to accumulate strain.
That is why some executives suddenly burn out.
Some business owners develop health problems.
Some high performers appear strong until they unexpectedly collapse under pressure.
The issue is often not the visible workload.
It is the invisible concentration of responsibility.
Perhaps this is why organizational resilience matters more than organizational size.
A company becomes stronger when knowledge is shared.
When decisions can be distributed.
When trust exists across multiple layers.
When responsibility does not depend on a single individual.
The same principle applies to families, communities, and even personal lives.
The question is not how many people are involved.
The question is where the weight is actually being carried.
And whether the people carrying that weight have a system capable of sustaining it.
Perhaps the most important thing to observe is not who receives the credit.
But who quietly absorbs the uncertainty every day.
Because that is often where the real center of the system exists.
Could it be that the true strength of a system is not found in its size—
but in how well it distributes responsibility before pressure arrives?
