Yield looks lower
Cost looks higher
Margin looks negative
So the conclusion is fast:
“This deal is bad.”
But the real question is:
Have you calculated the full structure?
Because most calculations are incomplete.

• If you are positioning for future crop, CNF must be evaluated against kernel demand — not just seller narrative.

Raw cost
Yield
Immediate selling price
But they ignore:
Grade distribution
Blending options
Timing of sale
Market segmentation
This is where distortion happens.
A cargo may look like a loss
when evaluated in isolation.
But when structured properly,
it may still be workable.
Or the opposite is also true.
A cargo may look profitable on paper
but becomes a loss
after full realization.
The issue is not the cargo.
The issue is the model
you are using to evaluate it.
In this business,
calculation is not just math.
It is structure.
If your structure is incomplete,
your conclusion will be wrong.
And once you believe you are losing,
you start making defensive decisions:
Selling too early
Discounting too fast
Losing optionality
That is when a manageable situation
turns into a real loss.
Not every loss is real.
Some are just miscalculated.
